Senate Legislation

Whereas a higher educational institution should be a sanctuary for the pursuit of truth and intellectual excellence through nurturing the habit of free inquiry and scholarship through teaching-learning and research aimed at acquiring and creating knowledge to be applied in fostering productivity and production improvements;

Whereas Admas University College has a vision of being a reputable institution of higher education recognized by quality education, research, and training;

 Whereas the University College mission is to provide quality higher education at all levels through regular ( i.e., Day and Extension programs) and distance education modes so as to produce competent professionals who can support the development endeavour of the country, undertake scientific research that helps to solve the economic and social problems of the country and that can also add new values to the society , render consultancy and short-term training services to the business community, government, and non-government organizations to help them accomplish their objectives, render various community services to fulfil social responsibilities expected of it as an academic institution

Whereas the University College organizational values are quality, excellence, secularity, equity, gender sensitivity, reliable partnership, academic freedom, efficiency, diversification, expansion, involvement,  collaboration, transparency, decisiveness, accountability, and responsiveness while the individual values are honesty, confidentiality, loyalty, problem solving, innovation/creativity, self initiation, and competence;

Whereas a democratic higher educational institution requires the creation of a student-centred educational environment that invites the need to change the role of students in the teaching-learning process from passive recipient of information and ready-made facts to that of active participant in the production and dissemination of knowledge;

Whereas student-centred education is indispensable for the creation and nurturance of certain qualities of mind and habits of inquiry in enhancing aptitude for problem solving, creativity, inquisitiveness, critical intelligence, appreciation and respect for a rich diversity of views and perspectives of capacity for reasonable self-criticism as well as update, all of which being crucial for the achievement of excellence in the pursuit of knowledge;

Whereas the shift from the traditional teacher-centred to student-centred educational process requires cultural transformation, necessitating wide-reaching behavioural and attitudinal change on the part of academic staff and students alike;

Whereas the Higher Educational Proclamation No. 351/2003 directs all higher educational institutions with respect to administrative autonomy, their organograms, and the powers and duties of the major units of the institutions;

Whereas the Senate Legislation and other rules and regulations of the University College should be compatible with the Proclamation and other new policies concerning institutions of higher education;

Now, therefore, this Senate Legislation is issued by the Senate of Admas University College in accordance with Article 37 of the Proclamation.
